May 12, 2009
Location:
Department of Rehabilitative Services
Richmond, Virginia

Theresa Preda, Ex-Officio
Others Present:
Mary-Margaret Cash
Ellen called the meeting to order at approximately 12:15 p.m.
Focus Groups: Concern was expressed regarding the need to ensure that Focus Group participants understand that the SILC is not in a position to give resources to start a CIL, and are only gathering information about the need and support for CIL services in unserved areas. There was considerable discussion about other methods, such as community forums, which would provide timely feedback due to the SPIL development forums will need to begin soon. The committee discussed holding two community forums, one in Planning Districts 13, 14 and one in lower 9. The SILC would pay for transportation, refreshments, etc. and could possibly use the ESO’s as transportation providers.
The possibility of contracting with a facilitator for the community forums was also discussed.
Motion made to conduct two community forums, in Planning Districts 13, 14, and one in lower 9
Approved by voice vote.
Motion passed.
Motion made to explore contracting with Janet Hill to facilitate both Public Forums, including submitting a summary report of the forums, and to authorize $4500 for this project.
Approved by voice vote
Motion passed.
